An update for the Golf Society

Each year, the 191 Golf Society holds an AGM and usually this has been in the format of a short AGM plus a dinner with Ladies and a prize presentation. During COVID, we have not been able to follow this format and having had a break from the format, it was decided to try a new situation. Consequently, on the Friday, 24 th March, members were invited to play 9 holes of golf, have Brunch and hold the AGM. This new idea was very well received by members and the morning of the 24 th March saw 22 keen golfers gather at Harwood Golf Course ready to tee off at 10.30.

Regrettably, due to the course being waterlogged, no golf could be played, however, the Brunch and AGM went ahead and it was deemed a great success by the 22 who attended. An excellent Brunch of Eggs, Bacon, Black Pudding, Tomatoes, Beans and Chips with bread and butter, was consumed with relish (brown sauce)!

The prize giving followed with Capatain Mal “Ashtray” Ashton presenting the following. A certificate, trophy and box of balls for the Endeavor Player of the Year to Ken Heppleston; A certificate, trophy and box of balls for the Walking Stick Player of the Year to Howard Hansell and last but not least The Champion Player of the Years, Certificate and Trophy was awarded to Duncan Whitelaw.

Malc then kindly rewarded the officials of the Society, Jeremy Aston, Secretary; John Oversby, Comps Sec and Phil Mountford, Treasurer, with a monogramed Golf Towel and thanked them for their hard work over the past year.

The Capatain closed the meeting by handing over to the new Captain Marcuse Hamer who thanked all for attending and said how much he was looking forward to the new golfing season!
