The Lodge of St John 191 Golf Society

In 2007 various members of the Lodge, classing themselves as golfers or “social golfers”, decided to form a Golf Society to be named the “191 Golf Society”.  The objective was and still is to foster social harmony, play social golf and contribute to charitable causes.

Consequently, the Society was formed and every year including and since 2007 The 191 Golf Society has played six games per year at various Golf Courses in the Bury and Bolton areas and by simply adding a £2 levy to the cost of the day’s golf and a once a year dinner with raffle, the Society has been able to raise and contribute approximately £6,000 to various charities.

Each year, a Captain is elected by the members and he then appoints, subject to agreement an AGM, a Vice Captain, a Secretary, a Treasurer and a Handicap Secretary.

The Society meets and plays during the months of April – September. All those who play golf are welcome and the Society particularly welcome those golfers who have perhaps not played regularly but do, in fact, welcome a good day’s fun. The cost of the day varies between £16 and £30 depending on the charges made by each course. The day starts with bacon sandwiches and coffee and first tee time is usually 11.00 am. The day finishes around 4 pm with a prize presentation and a glass at the bar!

The 191 Golf Society prides itself on its unique handicap system which is said to favour the “average golfer!”   Anyone who wishes to enjoy the game of golf and enjoy the friendship of others are most welcome. The Society is open to everybody, you do not have to be a member of a lodge to join us.
